Banton scores 36 as Legends erase 24-point deficit to stun Vipers
Dalano Banton scored a game-high 36 points to lead the Texas Legends to a stunning 108-104 comeback victory over the visiting Rio Grande Valley Vipers on Tuesday after trailing by as many as 24 points at Comerica Center in Frisco.
Banton added four rebounds and seven assists for the Legends (11-21), who mounted a furious fourth-quarter rally. Moussa Cisse had 13 points and a game-high 16 rebounds, while also adding four blocks. Jeremiah Robinson-Earl scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds, hitting key baskets in the final minutes. Miles Kelly provided a spark with 21 points before leaving the game in the third quarter because of a shoulder injury.
JD Davison paced the Vipers (20-11) with 27 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Daishen Nix contributed 20 points, six rebounds and six assists, while Tristen Newton finished with 15 points.
Rio Grande Valley controlled the game for three quarters, building a 24-point lead in the second quarter and taking a 92-75 advantage into the final period. But Texas stormed back, outscoring the Vipers 33-12 in the fourth.
The Legends chipped away at the lead before Banton gave Texas its first lead at 100-97 on a 3-pointer with 3:42 left. Cisse made a crucial layup and a block in the final minute to help secure the win. The Vipers had a chance to tie, but a 3-point attempt by Efe Abogidi with six seconds left was off the mark.
Up next: The Vipers visit the Santa Cruz Warriors on Thursday at 10 p.m. ET, and the Legends host the Iowa Wolves on Friday at 8:30 p.m.
