Shackelford scores 29, Suns snap skid with win over Kings
Jaden Shackelford scored a game-high 29 points, and the Valley Suns overcame an early double-digit deficit to defeat the visiting Stockton Kings 117-108 on Tuesday night and snap a six-game losing streak.
Five players scored in double figures for the Suns (10-22), who used a dominant second quarter to take control. CJ Huntley posted a powerful double-double with 18 points and 15 rebounds, while Zhuric Phelps orchestrated the offense, finishing with a double-double of his own on 12 points and 11 assists to go along with eight rebounds. Sean McDermott contributed 18 points, and Koby Brea added 15.
Isaiah Stevens led the Kings (19-11) with 25 points and seven assists. Patrick Baldwin Jr. recorded 21 points and 10 boards. Jaylin Williams provided a spark off the bench with 24 points and seven rebounds. Dexter Dennis chipped in with 16 points.
Stockton started strong, building a 12-point lead in the first quarter. However, the Suns stormed back in the second, outscoring the Kings 38-24 to take a 63-53 lead into halftime. Shackelford was the catalyst, scoring 21 of his 29 points in the first half. It marked his sixth consecutive game with 25 or more points.
The Suns continued to build on their lead after the break, pushing the advantage to as many as 19 points in the fourth quarter. Valley controlled the interior, outscoring Stockton 60-48 in the paint and holding a 53-38 rebounding advantage.
Up next: The Kings will play at the Memphis Hustle on Thursday at noon ET, while the Suns will visit the San Diego Clippers at 7 p.m. Thursday.
