Big night by Abmas allows Stars to shine

Max Abmas scored 40 points, sinking 10 3-pointers, to lead the host Salt Lake City Stars to a 131-119 victory over the Santa Cruz Warriors on Tuesday at Maverik Center in West Valley City, Utah.

Dereon Seabron added 28 points for the Stars (14-22), while Matthew Cleveland contributed 21 points and nine rebounds. Steven Crowl posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, and Trey Townsend chipped in 16 points.

Seven players scored in double figures for the Warriors (14-20), led by Taevion Kinsey with 22 points and six assists. Marques Bolden and Chance McMillian each scored 20, with McMillian also tallying six rebounds and six assists. Jordan Hall dished out a team-high nine assists to go with his 16 points, and reserve Ja'Vier Francis added 15 points. Jackson Moni had 12 points, while Jack Clark finished with 10.

Salt Lake City took control from the outset and never trailed. The Stars opened with a 44-29 advantage after one quarter and built a lead to as many as 23 points. Abmas hit three 3-pointers in the first two minutes to set the tone. Santa Cruz attempted to rally, outscoring Salt Lake City 29-22 in the third quarter, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome.

Up next: The Warriors host the Texas Legends on Friday at 10 p.m. ET. The Stars completed their season.
