Tyrese Martin scores 45 as Blue Coats edge Nets

Tyrese Martin scored 45 points in his return to Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, leading the Delaware Blue Coats to a 120-118 road victory over the Long Island Nets on Wednesday.

Martin, a former Net, was sensational for the Blue Coats (16-18), shooting 17-for-30 and draining 10 3-pointers. Teddy Allen contributed 16 points and nine rebounds, while Malcolm Hill also scored 16 points. Saint Thomas orchestrated the offense with 12 points and a game-high nine assists, and Abou Ousmane added 10 points and eight rebounds.

Long Island was led by a career-high 28 points from Hunter Cattoor, who connected on six 3-pointers. Jamal Mashburn Jr. contributed 24 points off the bench. The Nets (18-17) had six players reach double figures in scoring.

David Muoka scored 16 points to go with eight rebounds and five blocks. Alex Schumacher tallied 15 points and six assists, and Dre Davis chipped in with 15 points for the Nets, who were playing without forward Trevon Scott because of an ankle injury.

The Nets jumped out to a 14-point lead in the first quarter before Delaware stormed back. The contest turned into a back-and-forth affair that featured 13 lead changes. The Blue Coats seized control in the fourth quarter, building their largest lead of 13 points.

Long Island rallied in the final minute. Down by nine with under 30 seconds left, the Nets scored two quick layups and got a steal that led to another layup by Cattoor, who was fouled with three seconds remaining. Trailing by three, Cattoor intentionally missed the ensuing free throw, but Delaware's Igor Milicic Jr. secured the rebound and was fouled. Milicic made both free throws to seal the victory, rendering a last-second 3-pointer from Cattoor inconsequential.
