Monsanto, Labissiere fuel Go-Go in rout of Blue
Damari Monsanto and Skal Labissiere led their team with 17 points apiece as the Capital City Go-Go defeated the Oklahoma City Blue 125-86 on Saturday at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida.
The Go-Go established control early during G League Winter Showcase play, building a 13-point lead in the first quarter and maintaining a comfortable advantage for the remainder of the contest.
Capital City (1-0) exhibited a balanced offensive attack, with six players scoring in double figures on prolific 3-point shooting. Monsanto was highly efficient from deep, shooting 5-for-6, while Labissiere made his presence felt defensively with six rebounds and five blocks. AJ Johnson contributed 16 points, including four 3-pointers. The Go-Go's backcourt facilitated the offense effectively, with Keshon Gilbert providing 15 points and eight assists, and Sharife Cooper adding 13 points and eight assists. Jonathan Pierre delivered a remarkable performance off the bench, scoring 12 points in just six minutes by going a perfect 4-for-4 from beyond the arc. Leaky Black and Kadary Richmond controlled the glass, each pulling down 10 rebounds.
Oklahoma City (0-1) entered the game short-handed with only nine available players and lost guard Cameron Brown to a knee injury in the first half. Dariq Whitehead led all scorers with 22 points for the Blue. Zack Austin posted a solid all-around game with 16 points, five rebounds and three blocks. Jazian Gortman also scored 16 points, and Chris Youngblood finished with 14. Center Viktor Lakhin was a force on the boards, grabbing a game-high 14 rebounds to go along with his eight points.
Capital City's dominance was fueled by its long-range shooting. The team connected on 22 of 49 attempts from 3-point territory, with eight different players making at least one 3. The Go-Go built their lead to as many as 41 points in the fourth quarter. The Blue struggled to keep pace, shooting just 7-of-32 from deep and committing 15 turnovers.
