Raptors 905 hold off Gold 103-101, advance to G League Winter Showcase final
The Raptors 905 extended their record winning streak and advanced to the NBA G League Winter Showcase championship game, holding off the Grand Rapids Gold for a 103-101 victory Sunday at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. The win marks the 16th consecutive victory for the Raptors 905, a G League record.
The undefeated Raptors 905 (2-0) were led by a double-double from Jonathan Mogbo, who finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Alijah Martin contributed 18 points and hit four 3-pointers, while point guard Chucky Hepburn directed the offense with 14 points and 10 assists. A.J. Lawson also scored 14 points for the Raptors.
The Grand Rapids Gold (1-1) featured a balanced offensive attack with six players scoring in double figures. Curtis Jones led all Gold scorers with 20 points. DaRon Holmes II posted an impressive all-around performance with 19 points and a team-high eight assists. Kessler Edwards secured a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds, while James Akinjo added 15 points and Moses Brown chipped in with 14 points and eight boards.
The semifinal was a tightly contested affair that came down to the final seconds. The game saw several lead changes in the final two minutes. After a Mogbo layup gave the Raptors a late lead, Akinjo responded for the Gold with a layup to make it a one-point game with five seconds remaining. Grand Rapids was forced to foul Lawson, who made one of two free throws to push the Raptors' lead to 103-101 with 3.4 seconds on the clock. A last-second shot by the Gold was off the mark, sealing the victory and a trip to the final for the Raptors 905.
