Broome scores 32 as Blue Coats hold off Legends

Johni Broome delivered a dominant performance with 32 points and 14 rebounds in leading the Delaware Blue Coats to a 120-112 victory over the Texas Legends on Sunday at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. The Blue Coats (1-1) established an early lead and withstood several rallies from the Legends (0-2).

The Blue Coats' offense flowed through multiple contributors. Point guard Kennedy Chandler orchestrated the attack with a double-double of 17 points and 12 assists, and he added five steals and two blocks. MarJon Beauchamp had 23 points and seven rebounds. DeAndre Williams scored 18 points on an efficient 9-for-11 from the field, and veteran Malcolm Hill chipped in with 15 points, including three 3-pointers.

Texas Legends forward Jeremiah Robinson-Earl controlled the paint with 19 points and a game-high 21 rebounds. Miles Kelly led the team in scoring with 25 points, connecting on five 3-pointers. Zhaire Smith was also effective, scoring 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting. Dalano Banton contributed 15 points, and center Jamarion Sharp was a formidable defensive presence, swatting eight shots to go with his five rebounds. Mark Armstrong added 12 points and five assists off the bench.

Delaware led for most of the contest, taking a 63-56 advantage into halftime. Texas refused to go away, mounting a significant comeback in the final period. A 13-2 run, capped by an acrobatic layup from Mark Armstrong, cut the Delaware lead to 112-110 with 3:45 remaining. However, the Blue Coats responded immediately. Broome scored on the next possession and Williams followed with a key jumper to push the lead back to seven and seal the victory. Delaware's ability to answer every Texas surge was the difference in the contest.

Up next: Both teams are back in action at 7 p.m. ET on Dec. 27 when the Blue Coats face the Cleveland Charge and the Legends take on the Noblesville Boom.
