Salt Lake City Stars overwhelm Raptors 905 to claim G League Winter Showcase title

The Salt Lake City Stars defeated the Raptors 905 137-112 on Friday in Orlando, Florida, to win the NBA G League Winter Showcase championship. In a battle of the league's top offense against its top defense, the Stars' high-powered attack proved overwhelming from the start.

The Stars (12-2 regular-season record) were paced by a dominant performance from their bench, led by Showcase MVP Max Abmas, who scored 29 points on 9-of-16 shooting. Abmas was effective from long range, hitting six of his 10 3-point attempts, and also contributed six rebounds and four assists. Fellow reserve Sean East II orchestrated the offense, finishing with 21 points and a team-high six assists. Starter Elijah Harkless added 25 points, while Mo Bamba posted a double-double with 17 points, 12 rebounds and 3 blocks. Matthew Murrell provided another spark off the bench with 17 points and three steals.

Alijah Martin was the standout performer for the Raptors 905 (14-0), leading all scorers with 33 points to go along with six rebounds and four assists. A.J. Lawson was the next-highest scorer for Toronto, finishing with 18 points and six rebounds. Chucky Hepburn chipped in with 10 points and six assists in the defeat.

The loss was the first of the season for the Raptors 905, who entered the championship game with a G League record 14-0 start. Because showcase games do not count in the official standings, Toronto's regular-season winning streak remains active. Salt Lake City established control early, pouring in 44 first-quarter points to take a 16-point lead. It maintained a double-digit advantage for the remainder of the contest, pushing the lead to as high as 29 points in the fourth quarter.
