Cards' Murray struggles to get yards on attempts

Kyler Murray had 173 passing yards on 30 completions, an NFL record for the fewest pass yards by a QB with at least 30 completions in the Super Bowl era.

Cardinals punter Andy Lee said he doesn't think his hip flexor is "anything crazy, crazy serious but it's enough to where I couldn't continue to do my job. We'll see what happens." He doesn't know exactly when he injured his hip but said it happened when he was either chasing down Panthers returner Ray-Ray McCloud early in the fourth quarter or tackling him. Lee said he didn't feel anything for a couple of minutes on the sideline.

There was a lot of talk by Kliff Kingsbury about getting "off schedule" when the Cardinals went down, meaning they had to start throwing the ball instead of finding a balance with the run game. Kyler Murray said the Cardinals were "one dimensional" when they went down 15, allowing the Panthers' defense to pin their ears back and rush without abandon. Murray also said his second interception was just him forcing a throw, trying to make something happen.

Allen throws 4 TDs, Panthers beat Cardinals 38-20

Kyle Allen threw for 261 yards and four touchdowns in place of the injured Cam Newton, Christian McCaffrey ran for a 76-yard touchdown, and the Carolina Panthers beat the Arizona Cardinals 38-20 on Sunday.

Kyler Murray didn't have the late-game heroics in him Sunday afternoon in a 38-20 loss to the Carolina Panthers. After a great start, Murray struggled to get into a rhythm, throwing for just 173 yards while running for 69. He was sacked eight times, some of which were a product of his inexperience and not throwing the ball away or holding onto the ball too long.

Great patience by Kyler Murray on that touchdown pass to David Johnson. Play broke down, Murray rolled to his right, waited, waited, waited and then threw back across the field to David Johnson, who muscled in the touchdown to give the Cardinals a 17-14 lead.

After starting great with their best drive of the season led by an efficient and dynamic Kyler Murray, the Cardinals' offense cooled down quite a bit and entered halftime down 14-10. Murray, who ran six times for 32 yards but didn't throw for 100 yards in the first half despite completing 18-of-22 passes, had some great plays mixed with some that showed his inexperience. He took too many sacks or hits behind the line of scrimmage while using his legs to get crucial first downs. The education of Kyler Murray continues.

Should quarterback Kyle Allen start for the Panthers on Sunday, Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury will already be very familiar with Allen, a Scottsdale, Arizona, native. Kingsbury recruited Allen to Texas Tech (briefly) but didn't land the prized quarterback. "He was like the number one prospect in the country so he probably threw all our letters away and red-buttoned me every time I called him but I remember watching him, he was very, very talented." It should also be noted that Allen held off Kyler Murray for the Aggies' starting job for the first six games in 2015.

The Cardinals' red zone woes cost them in Sunday's 23-17 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Just one touchdown instead of a field goal could've changed the course of the game but Arizona opted to attack the end zone through the air instead of on the ground.
