No. 14 Indiana women win shootout with Michigan State 94-91, Moore-McNeil has triple-double

Michigan State overextends on defense, and Yarden Garzon makes the Spartans pay with a big jump shot for Indiana.
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- — Mackenzie Holmes scored 18 of her 28 points in the second half, Yarden Garzon had 11 of her 20 in the fourth quarter and No. 14 Indiana won a shootout with Michigan State 94-91 on Thursday night.
Chloe Moore-McNeil had a triple-double for the Hoosiers, who had five starters in double figures while shooting 10 of 20 from 3-point range, 67% overall (35 of 52) and 14 of 16 from the foul line. Indiana is 11-0 at home this season.
Julia Ayrault scored 25 to lead five players in double figures for the Spartans, who fell to 15-1 when scoring 80 points despite making 12 of 18 3-pointers and shooting 59% overall (33 of 56).
Sara Scalia's 3-pointer gave Indiana a 77-76 lead with 6:11 to play, the Hoosiers' first lead since 12-10 in a first quarter that saw the teams shoot a combined 24 of 34 and end with MSU on top 32-27. Moira Joiner had six consecutive Michigan State points to tie the game at 86 with 1:55 to play. Holmes broke the tie at 1:12.
After a Michigan State miss, Garzon hit a 15-foot jumper and after DeeDee Hagemann's layup pulled the Spartans within 90-88 with 15.4 seconds left. Scalia and Moore-McNeil both made two free throws before Hagemann's 3 ended it.
Moore-McNeil had 10 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists for the Hoosiers (19-3, 10-2 Big Ten Conference). Scalia had 21 points with five 3s and Lexus Bargesser had 10 points and six assists.
Moore-McNeil tied her career-high in rebounds and assists in getting the fourth Indiana triple-double and the first in three years.
Holmes moved within 17 points of passing Tyra Buss' Indiana career scoring record (2,364) and within one game of Grace Berger, who had the last triple-double and was involved in 118 wins for the Hoosiers.
Hagemann scored 19 points and had 10 assists for the Spartans (17-6, 7-5), who had a four-game winning streak snapped. Joiner had 14 points and reserves Theryn Hallock and Tory Ozment scoredd 13 and 11, respectively. Ayrault made 9 of 11 shots, 5 of 6 behind the arc.
Ayrault had 12 points in the first quarter and 18 at halftime on 7-for-7 shooting with four 3-pointers, as Michigan State took a 53-43 lead. Both teams shot 65% in the first half.
Ozment had consecutive 3-pointers, giving the Spartans 61-51 and 64-53 leads in the third quarter but the Hoosiers went on a 13-2 run to tie the game. Garzon started and ended it with 3s, but Michigan State took a two-point lead into the fourth quarter when Hagemann scored on a drive just before the buzzer.
