Boise State Broncos @ UNLV Lady Rebels
Young scores 13, No. 24 UNLV women rally in fourth quarter to defeat Boise State 63-57
LAS VEGAS -- — Desi-Rae Young scored 13 points and No. 24 UNLV used a late 10-0 run to pull out a 63-57 win over Boise State on Wednesday night for its 10th-straight win.
The Lady Rebels were down five with eight minutes to go when Young fed Nneka Obiazor for a layup. Kiara Jackson followed with a layup for her first points of the game, and then her free throws with 6:56 to play gave UNLV its first lead since midway through the first quarter.
Young followed with an offensive rebound and turn-around jumper at 6:30. After a dry spell that included five UNLV misses, Jackson fed Obiazor for the layup that made it 58-53 with 2:27 to play.
Tatum Thompson's basket at 1:29 ended a drought of 5:46 for the Broncos, who had missed eight-straight shots. But Boise State only had one foul with 30 seconds left and didn't get much opportunity to force UNLV to make clutch free throws.
UNLV (25-2, 15-1 Mountain West Conference), which clinched the league title in its last game, was 16 points below its season scoring average and well below its 85-63 win at Boise State.
Thompson had 14 points and Mya Hansen 12 for Boise State (19-10, 10-6).
Boise State was more consistent but neither team shot real well in the first half. The Broncos made 6 of 13 in the first quarter and 6 of 18 in the second, getting 14 points in each for a 28-27 halftime lead. The Lady Rebels were 4 of 16, trailing 14-8 after one quarter, but 8 of 16 in the second.
The Broncos made 9 of 11 shots in the third quarter but only managed to increase their lead to 49-46 entering the fourth quarter. The Lady Rebels were 7 of 14 in both the third and fourth quarter, but Boise State faded to 3 of 14 in the fourth.
UNLV is home against San Diego State on Saturday when Air Force visits Boise State.
