HAMPTON, Va. -- Delmon Williams threw for 305 yards and three touchdowns to lead Hampton past Delaware State 28-15 on Friday night in the MEAC rival opener for both teams.

On the first offensive play after Delaware State took a 15-14 lead, Aulden Knight raced for a 78-yard touchdown to give Hampton a 21-15 lead just before halftime. Yahkee Johnson's 15-yard touchdown run at the 12:13 mark of the fourth quarter were the only points of the second half.

Jack McDaniels was 15-of-30 passing for 156 yards for Delaware State. His 1-yard sneak on fourth-and-goal gave the Hornets a 12-7 lead.
Hampton's punter had the ball go through his hands for a safety in the first quarter. Following the free kick, Delaware State went on a 14-play, 63-yard drive to take a 5-0 lead on a short field goal.
