The Citadel wins 34-32 despite Udinski's 5 TD passes for VMI
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Jordan Black rushed for 155 yards and two touchdowns and The Citadel survived a five-touchdown day by Reece Udinski in a 34-32 victory over VMI on Saturday.
Udinski tied a 57-year old school record (Bobby Mitchell, 1961) with his five touchdown passes, breaking his own VMI record with 48 completions, which came on 63 attempts for 452 yards plus two interceptions. But after Udinski connected with Jakob Herres for a 27-yard score with 2:04 to go, he overthrew Devone Humphrey in the back of the end zone on the two-point try.
A two-point pass also failed after Udinski teamed with Kris Thornton on a 65-yard touchdown to trail 31-26 with 8:12 remaining.
The loss extended VMI's losing streak to 24 games, the longest active streak in Division I.
Black had touchdown runs of 6 and 71 yards, the latter giving the Bulldogs (2-4, 2/3 Southern) a 28-20 lead in the third quarter with Jacob Godek then adding two field goals. The Citadel was outgained 502-366 but outrushed the Keydets 335-65.
Kris Thornton had 146 yards receiving on 11 catches with two scores for VMI (0-7, 0-6).
