San Jose got the job done away from home, scoring twice, and claiming all three points, despite a late rally from the home team Vancouver.

Quincy Amarikwa and Simon Dawkins scored to help the San Jose Earthquakes beat the Vancouver Whitecaps 2-1 on Friday for their first MLS victory from home this season.

Amarikwa opened the scoring in the 14th minute on a header, and Dawkins struck in the 60th with a left-footer to the far post.

Nicolas Mezquida scored a consolation in stoppage time for Vancouver.

San Jose improved to 31 points and leaped over Vancouver into seventh place in the Western Conference, one point behind sixth-placed Portland, which currently sits in the final playoff position.

Vancouver has 30 points from 25 games.
