Marco Verratti scores controversial goal as PSG thump Bastia

Paris Saint-Germain kept up the pressure on Ligue 1 leaders Monaco with a dominant 5-0 victory over bottom club Bastia.

Unai Emery's side scored two goals in the space of three minutes, firstly through Lucas Moura before Marco Verratti's controversial long-range effort extended their lead.

Edinson Cavani bagged his 32nd goal of the campaign before the striker missed a penalty late on. Marquinhos added a fourth before Cavani scored his second of the game to keep their title hopes alive as they bounced back from defeat to Nice.

The defeat heaped more pressure on Bastia as they remain two points from safety, with their goal difference taking a significant hit.

PSG's early dominance paid off after 32 minutes as Matuidi played in Moura to score a simple tap-in. The reigning Ligue 1 champions doubled their advantage moments later, albeit in contentious circumstances.

Matuidi looked to have picked up an injury inside Bastia's box and while goalkeeper Jean-Louis Leca went over to check on him, PSG resumed play from a throw-in and Verratti unleashed a 25-yard strike past the helpless stopper.

Goncalo Guedes and Julian Draxler combined to set up Cavani for an easy tap-in after 76 minutes and the Uruguayan then missed a penalty after being brought down by Alexander Djiku.

Marquinhos was on hand to get a touch on Giovani Lo Celso's effort to make it 4-0 before Cavani's strike from outside of the area completed the rout.
