Debut goal from Reuben Reid ends Forest Green's losing run

Reuben Reid scored on his Forest Green debut as Mark Cooper's side climbed out of the League Two relegation zone with a 1-0 win against Port Vale.Reid, who arrived at the League Two strugglers on a two-and-half-year deal from Exeter on Friday, was handed a start and scored what proved to be the winner from the edge of the box in the 61st minute.Forest Green, who had lost their last five league games, started brightly. Dan Wishart's fizzing effort in the 17th minute forced a good save out of Port Vale's goalkeeper Ryan Boot.Five minutes later, a well-worked Reece Brown corner saw Christian Doidge launch himself at the back post, but his flying header flashed just wide of the target. The pressure told after the break and Reid struck just after the hour mark as he combined with strike partner Doidge before firing past Boot from 20 yards.Vale offered little in response and David Worrall snatched at a chance with 17 minutes to go as the visitors suffered a second successive 1-0 defeat.
