Toye nets two as streaking Minnesota rallies past Montreal
Mason Toye scored two goals, including the game-winner in the 47th minute, to lead visiting Minnesota United to their third win in eight days, 3-2, over the Montreal Impact on Saturday night.
Ethan Finlay scored on a penalty kick, and Kevin Molino added two assists for Minnesota (9-7-3, 30 points), which moved into fourth place in the Western Conference. Vito Mannone finished with four saves, including one on a close-in header by Bacary Sagna in the 95th minute to seal the victory, the fifth in a row in all competitions for the Loons.
Anthony Jackson-Hamel and Rudy Camacho each scored in the first 13 minutes for Montreal, which lost its second straight match. Evan Bush had two saves for the Impact.
Montreal needed only 27 seconds to take a 1-0 lead, as Jackson-Hamel took a long stretch pass from Zakaria Diallo, cut inside defender Brent Kallman and then beat Mannone with a left-footed shot from the right corner of the 6-yard box. The goal tied for the 15th fastest in MLS history.
Minnesota tied it just eight minutes later, when Toye booted in a long crossing pass from Molino from inside the left side of the 18-yard box over Bush.
The Impact regained the lead in the 13th minute on Camacho's first goal of the season, as he tapped in Saphir Taider's corner kick after a deflection into the left side of the net.
Minnesota tied it, 2-2, just before halftime when Finlay broke in free and was tripped by Bush inside the box. VAR confirmed the on-field penalty call, and Finlay drilled it into the right side of the net in the second minute of stoppage time for his third goal of the season.
Toye's second goal of the game and third of the season gave Minnesota a 3-2 lead in the 47th minute. The score came off another arcing crossing pass from Molino to Toye on the left side of the goal, and the 20-year-old forward slotted a right-footed shot past Bush into the right corner of the net.
