NYCFC plays Revs to scoreless draw behind Johnson's mastery

Sean Johnson had seven saves while picking up fifth shutout of the season and New York City FC extended its unbeaten streak to six games with a 0-0 draw with the New England Revolution on Saturday afternoon in Foxborough, Mass.

It was the 65th career shutout for Johnson as NYCFC (5-5-2, 17 points) improved to 4-0-2 over its last six matches.

Matt Turner had four saves for New England (3-3-6, 15 points), which has yet to win a home match at Gillette Stadium (0-1-4) in the 2020 season.

Johnson had four saves during the first half when New England garnered four offsides, three of which wiped out goals, including two by Gustavo Bou.

Johnson also came up with a diving two-handed stop of a Teal Bunbury right-footed shot outside the left side of the box for the far post in the 13th minute to thwart New England's best scoring try of the half. He also stopped Tajon Buchanan's close-in header attempt from the middle of the box in the 25th minute.

New York City had a chance to take the lead in the 70th minute when Alexander Ring found Alexandru Mitrita cutting in on the right side of the box, but Mitrita's right-footed shot was deflected over the goal off the leg of a sliding Andrew Farrell.

Bou had another good scoring chance in the first minute of stoppage time but his right-footed shot from outside the left corner of the box was knocked away by Johnson.

Lee Nguyen, acquired in a trade from Inter Miami on Sept. 8, made his first home start for the Revolution since Oct. 15, 2017, and played 89 minutes and set up several scoring chances.

Defender Joe Scally, at 17 years, eight months and 20 days, became the youngest player in NYCFC history to start a game. Scally, who picked up a yellow card for unsporting behavior in the 47th minute, was subbed out in the 65th minute.
