      Exeter beat Colchester to set up play-off date with Lincoln

      Exeter will face Lincoln in the League Two play-off semi-finals as a 1-0 win over Colchester was enough for them to finish the season in fourth place.Exeter should have gone ahead in the 13th minute when Liam McAlinden capitalised on some poor defending. He lofted the ball over the head of goalkeeper Dillon Barnes but opted to set up Robbie Simpson despite having an open goal, with the ball going over his head as the chance went begging.Simpson had the ball in the net only for the goal to be disallowed for a foul by the Exeter striker, but it was a poor first half of few chances for either side.On the hour mark, Colchester had a great opportunity to go in front when Pierce Sweeney was adjudged to have fouled Junior Ogedi-Uzokwe in the box, but Sammie Szmodics' penalty was poor and kept out by the feet of Christy Pym.Dean Moxey fired against the inside of the post for Exeter, who then went in front on 72 minutes when Simpson connected with Sweeney's deep cross to head past Barnes.Ogedi-Uzokwe's deflected cross had to be palmed behind by Pym, but Colchester rarely threatened as Exeter saw the game out to finish fourth.

        Honours even between Colchester and Swindon

        Colchester and Swindon Town played out an uninspiring 0-0 draw at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.Both teams lacked a cutting edge in front of goal, with chances at a premium throughout.Matty Taylor's deflected free-kick sailed straight into the arms of Colchester keeper Dillon Barnes early on and Scotty Twine ran towards goal but curled a shot well over the bar.At the other end, Drey Wright's first time cross-come-shot flew wide of the far post midway through the first half and Mikael Mandron hooked a first-time shot off target, soon after.Colchester finished the first half strongly, with Courtney Senior firing over from Sean Murray's lay-off and Swindon keeper Stuart Moore pushing away Wright's fine goalbound effort for a corner, just before the interval.Wright drove a fierce cross-shot just wide for Colchester shortly before the hour mark and the hosts felt they should have had a penalty when substitute Junior Ogedi-Uzokwe went down under Ryan McGivern's challenge with 14 minutes remaining but the points were shared.

          Luke Waterfall's winner keeps Lincoln on course for play-off spot

          Luke Waterfall headed a last-gasp winner as 10-man Lincoln City secured a dramatic 2-1 victory over Colchester United.The play-off chasing Imps took the lead in the 55th minute through Elliott Whitehouse's penalty after substitute Ollie Palmer had been impeded in the box.However, Colchester levelled on the hour mark through substitute Courtney Senior, who capped a good move after the home side had given the ball away in midfield.Both sides had chances to take the lead with Michael Mandron blazing over the Lincoln bar from point-blank range, while Palmer hit the bar with an audacious effort from outside the box.The Imps were reduced to ten men in the 84th minute when Michael Bostwick was deemed to have denied a clear goalscoring opportunity after hauling down Mandron.Despite that, Danny Cowley's side kept pressing and in the fourth minute of added time another substitute, Waterfall, rose highest to nod the Imps in front and spark scenes of delirium among the 9,000-plus crowd.With Mansfield being held by Port Vale, the win boosted City's hopes of a top-seven finish.

            Notts County strike back in hunt for automatic promotion

            Promotion-chasing Notts County put in a strong second-half performance to claim a 3-1 comeback win at Colchester United.The Magpies trailed at the break to Drey Wright's opener but scored three goals after half-time to seal victory at the Community Stadium.Kevin Nolan's side had trailed at the break to a 10-minute strike from Wright, who exchanged passes with Ben Stevenson before slotting low past Adam Collin from close range.County equalised five minutes after the break through Jonathan Forte, who squeezed a low shot inside the near post after Shaun Brisley had done well to keep the move alive from Matt Tootle's cross.And the Magpies took the lead with 21 minutes remaining through Shola Ameobi, who followed up to score after home goalkeeper Sam Walker had denied Forte and Matthew Virtue had also come close to scoring, following Tootle's cross.When Richard Duffy headed home Dan Jones' free-kick with 14 minutes to go, the points were Notts County's to lose.Tom Eastman hit the post for Colchester but the visitors claimed a comeback victory that sees them sit four points off the automatic promotion spots.

              Billy Kee strike inspires leaders Accrington to victory over Colchester

              Billy Kee's second-half strike helped Accrington win 1-0 at Colchester to chalk up a seventh straight victory and leave themselves on the brink of automatic promotion.Kee netted from close range in the 63rd minute, after Colchester keeper Sam Walker could only parry Jordan Clark's cross into the striker's path, to seal another victory for the leaders.Clark's audacious lob had flown over early on for Accrington, for whom Mark Hughes' fierce left-foot strike was pushed away at his near post by Walker.Stanley skipper Seamus Conneely fired a shot inches past the post before half-time but Colchester started the second half well and Courtney Senior's 30-yard strike dropped just wide, while Drey Wright's deflected cross-shot bobbled inches past the far post.Impressive U's keeper Walker made a smart save to foil Kayden Jackson, who had raced through on goal.And after Kee had given Accrington the lead, Walker made good saves from point-blank range to foil both Jackson and Kee, as the visitors edged closer to promotion.

                Drey Wright gets Colchester off to flying start

                Colchester's slim play-off aspirations were given a boost by a 2-1 victory at Forest Green.Early goals in either half from Drey Wright and Ben Stevenson left the U's four points shy of the top seven, with Rovers, for whom Reuben Reid scored a penalty, six points above the drop zone.Colchester caught Forest Green cold from the kick-off as Wright got on the end of Sammie Szmodics' cross to poke over the line after just 16 seconds.Visiting manager Mark Cooper appeared unhappy with the way the game was going as he came down from the stands to the technical area, and moments later his side were awarded a penalty.Haydn Hollis took a tumble in the box under pressure from Tom Eastman and Reid stepped up to net his 14th goal of the season and level the contest.Yet Forest Green were once again sluggish at the beginning of the second period and Stevenson fizzed home to restore Colchester's lead in the 47th minute.The U's were nearly pegged back again right at the death, though, as goalkeeper Sam Walker touched Dayle Grubb's free-kick around a post.

                  Berry injury overshadows Luton defeat at Colchester

                  Luton midfielder Luke Berry appeared to suffer a serious leg injury as the promotion-chasing Hatters suffered a 2-1 defeat at Colchester.Berry went to ground in the second minute after seemingly getting his leg accidentally caught in a challenge with Colchester midfielder Tom Lapslie inside the Luton half.Both teams were briefly taken off the pitch while Berry received lengthy treatment before being stretchered off, with the game eventually restarting 11 minutes later.The U's went ahead in the 15th minute through Tom Eastman, who firmly headed in Ben Stevenson's cross.And the hosts doubled their lead 13 minutes later when Luke Prosser nodded in at the far post, from another Stevenson delivery.Luton left-back Dan Potts saw an effort flash just past the post while Danny Hylton had an effort ruled out for offside, as Luton went in behind at the break.Hylton nodded over from Alan Sheehan's free-kick before scoring from the spot with three minutes remaining, after Ryan Jackson had fouled substitute Luke Gambin, but Colchester held out.
