Duarte, Figueroa help Oregon clamp down Portland, 80-41
EUGENE, Ore. -- — Chris Duarte scored 21 points, LJ Figueroa added 15 and Oregon walloped Portland 80-41 on Saturday. winning its sixth straight game.
Portland had been averaging nearly 82 points a game, beat Oregon State 87-86 in OT on Dec. 10, and rode a five-game win streak into Matthew Knight Arena for the afternoon clash.
The Pilots (5-2) managed just 12-for-56 shooting (21%) against Oregon with four assists, season lows. The 41 points was Portland's lowest output since Jan. 12, 2017.
The Ducks, shooting 50% at halftime (14-for-28) cranked it up to 64% shooting in the second half, making 18 of 28. Eleven players scored for Oregon as the bench kicked in 28 points.
Oregon (6-1) dominated the boards 42-26 and scored 30 off 18 Portland turnovers. The Pilots had nine steals, one more than Oregon, and forced 19 turnovers but were only able to score 15 off them.
Duarte and Eugene Omoruyi combined for five of Oregon's 10 blocked shots. Figueroa and Jalen Terry each had two.
Chase Adams led the Pilots with nine points. Ahmed Ali, who led the Pilots in scoring in each of the first six games, was 0-for-7 from the floor and scored six at the line.
With the win, Ducks coach Dana Altman tied Louisville’s Denny Crum for 24th in NCAA Division I career coaching wins (675).
The team announced sophomore N’Faly Dante sustained a season-ending injury to his left knee (torn ACL) during Oregon’s game against San Francisco Thursday night.
