McClary scores 13 as Monmouth struggles, but wins

JERSEY CITY, N.J. -- Marcus McClary scored 13 points and Monmouth defeated Saint Peter's 53-51 on Thursday night despite making only 30 percent of its shots.

The Hawks were 14 of 47 from the field and made more free throws than field goals. They were 22 for 25 from the line. Monmouth (9-16, 8-4 MAAC) won its fourth straight and improved to 3-10 on the road.

Davauhnte Turner scored 20 points, sinking 5 of 10 3-pointers, for Saint Peter's (6-16, 3-7). The Peacocks lost their fourth in a row, the previous three on the road.

There were only four points scored in the final three minutes, all by Monmouth. The Hawks tied it with two free throws by Nick Rutherford at 2:58. The next points came at 1:15 on a layup by Diago Quinn, which would mark the last points of the game. Quinn finished with 10 points.

After Quinn's layup, Saint Peter's committed a turnover, Monmouth missed a layup with 25 seconds left and Dallas Watson of Saint Peter's missed a 3-pointer with 4 seconds to go.
