Stars shake off big deficit to roll past Suns
The Salt Lake City Stars bounced back from a 14-point first-half deficit to beat the Valley Suns 141-125 on Tuesday night at the Maverik Center. The Stars secured their 12th victory of the season and completed a back-to-back home sweep of the Suns.
John Tonje led the charge for Salt Lake City (12-2) with a game-high 29 points, including four 3-pointers, on 10-of-17 shooting. Elijah Harkless orchestrated the offense, finishing with a double-double of 26 points and 11 assists. Center Mo Bamba was a dominant force on both ends of the court, contributing 21 points, nine rebounds, five assists and five blocks before fouling out late in the fourth quarter. Oscar Tshiebwe also recorded a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. The Stars' bench provided significant firepower, with Matthew Murrell scoring 18 points and Sean East II adding another double-double on 16 points and 11 assists. Cam McGriff chipped in with 14 points from the reserve unit.
For the Suns (3-11), guard Damion Baugh posted a double-double with a team-high 24 points and 10 assists. Marcus Burk and CJ Huntley each added 19 points, with Burk connecting on five 3-pointers and Huntley grabbing eight rebounds. Jaden Shackelford contributed 18 points. Off the bench, Tyrese Samuel scored 13 points in 19 minutes of action, and Alex Schumacher finished with 12 points.
The victory improved Salt Lake City's home record to a 7-0.
