Elmore sets career high as Kings hold off Vipers

Jon Elmore scored a G League career-high 32 points to lead the Stockton Kings to a 128-115 victory over the Rio Grande Valley Vipers on Wednesday night in Stockton, California.

The Kings led from start to finish, building a lead as large as 34 points before withstanding a furious fourth-quarter rally from the Vipers.

Elmore was the catalyst, adding five assists and three rebounds for the Kings (4-3), who had five players score in double figures. Dexter Dennis was a key contributor with 22 points, including four 3-pointers, and three assists. Daeqwon Plowden added 18 points and three assists, while DaQuan Jeffries posted a strong performance with 16 points and six rebounds. Off the bench, Mitch Mascari provided a spark with 14 points (including four 3-pointers).

The Vipers (3-3) were led by an outstanding effort from Tristen Newton, who finished with a game-high 33 points to go along with seven assists and three steals. Rio Grande Valley mounted a significant comeback in the final period, outscoring Stockton 43-24, but it never closed the gap to less than 13 points.

Tyler Smith was a major factor off the bench for the Vipers, scoring 22 points on an efficient 8-for-10 shooting in 22 minutes of action. Daishen Nix also filled the stat sheet with 17 points, seven rebounds and six assists. 

Up next: The Kings visit the Westchester Knicks on Friday at 7 p.m. ET, while the Vipers host the Greensboro Swarm on Friday at 8 p.m.
