Broncos pass on QBs; GM 'happy with our group'

Denver Broncos GM George Paton said having Drew Lock and Teddy Bridgewater compete for the starting QB job was "what we wanted all along" after the team passed on every QB on the board.

Broncos coach Vic Fangio said Saturday, after the draft, Quinn Meinerz from Wisconsin-Whitewater, one of the team's third-round picks, would initially play at center. "(Offensive line coach) Mike (Munchak) will manage it and determine when he gets some work at guard too.'' Last season the Broncos started rookie Lloyd Cushenberry III at center in all 16 games.

Asked if he considered at any point over Day 2 or Day 3 of the draft, with the way the board fell, selecting a quarterback, Broncos GM George Paton said: "We did not, we did not, it just didn't fall our way and we're happy with our group.'' And asked if he still would consider adding a free agent QB, Paton said: "We're always looking, you know what the market looks like right now, it's not great ... we'll see ... but we like our two.''

Broncos GM George Paton on finishing the draft without selecting a quarterback: "I like our room right now, I think I said that (Friday) night. Teddy and Drew, they're going to have a great competition, that's what we wanted all along. We'll let them compete ... Does that mean we won't continue to look? No, (but) I say that with every position. But I do look forward to getting Teddy here with Drew and having a great competition.''
