Brian Flores says Taco Charlton wants to play Sunday at Dallas and it's a possibility, but he noted that it would be a "tough thing to do" given he's only had one practice with the team.

Brian Flores said Josh Rosen saw an opportunity to take the Dolphins starting QB job and took it with two strong practices this week. Flores said Rosen's development is important to him. He didn't want to rush him. "I do think he's ready." Flores, when asked if Rosen has a chance to be Dolphins' long-term QB1, says: Is there potential for that? Yeah, obviously there's always potential for that. But when you start to think that far ahead, you lose a little bit of right now." He advised Rosen to focus on now.

Riddick: Rosen 'becomes collateral damage' as starter (1:01)

Cameron Wolfe ESPN Staff Writer

Josh Rosen will be the 21st quarterback to start for the Dolphins since Dan Marino retired prior to the 2000 NFL season. Only Cleveland (29) and Chicago (23) have had more QBs to start a game for them during that span.

Nothing more important for Dolphins over next 7 1/2 months than figuring out their long-term QB plan. Josh Rosen, despite extremely tough circumstances, now has a chance to make his case starting this week at Dallas. Rosen's turn was bound to come given the team gave up a second-round pick to acquire him, and he's got a stronger grasp of Miami's offense in recent weeks. He still believes he can prove to the team that he could be their long-term answer. At the very least, he brings a spark to a team that was outscored 102-10 over their first two games.

Brian Flores on more players feeling empowered to ask for trades: "It's not disheartening; but as a guy who has built his career on building relationships, you hate to see that. That's kind of how I felt about the Minkah situation. But like everything else, you deal with a little adversity and you have to move on, get better and try to improve the team. As far as what happens around the league, I'm not there. I don't know what those situations are like. I really don't have much of an opinion on it, to be honest with you. It's not something I think about."

Seth Walder ESPN Analytics

The Dolphins' -14.4 FPI rating is the worst rating by any team in any week in the history of the model (back to 2008). That rating means FPI estimates that the Dolphins are about two touchdowns worse than an *average* team on a neutral field.
