Law: Did the A's get the best of the Yankees?

The Yankees had seemed like the obvious destination for Sonny Gray all month, but the two sides didn't have a deal until close to Monday's trade deadline, eventually agreeing on a surprising deal where two of the three prospects returning to Oakland are currently out for the season because of injuries.

Sonny Gray is a No. 3 starter who has looked like an ace thanks to Oakland's big ballpark, which suppresses homers and has a ton of foul territory. That's enough to help the Yankees, who have two young starters (Luis Severino and Jordan Montgomery) heading into uncharted workload territories and two old starters (Masahiro Tanaka and CC Sabathia) with significant durability concerns.
