BATON ROUGE, La. -- LSU's big recruiting weekend has yielded a much-needed commitment.

Christian LaCouture, a defensive tackle from Lincoln, Neb./Southwestern became the Tigers' 24th member of its 2013 class Friday night when he pledged to the Tigers, his father confirmed. LaCouture, who was formerly committed to the hometown Huskers, is in Baton Rouge with his mother for an official visit.

LaCouture, who moved to Nebraska during the summer from College Station, Texas, is LSU's second defensive tackle commitment of the class, addressing an area where the Tigers had a major need. Facing the loss of senior Josh Downs and the likely loss of highly regarded junior Bennie Logan to the NFL draft, LSU needed both numbers and quality to be able to maintain the depth at the position that has allowed defensive coordinator John Chavis to routinely employ a four-man rotation.

LaCouture might fit the bill. With great length (6-foot-5) and a large frame, LaCouture is an athlete who had drawn a lot of major college attention, with offers from the likes of Michigan, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State and Baylor. He'll need to add bulk -- he is listed at 267 pounds -- but will come to LSU with similar size to Michael Brockers, another native Texan, when he arrived at LSU.

LaCouture will join Tevin Lawson of Denham Springs, La./Denham Springs as defensive tackles in this class. LSU is hosting more high-profile defensive tackles this weekend with ESPN 300 tackles Greg Gilmore and Justin Manning set to visit.
