The to-do lists: Offseason objectives for eliminated AL teams

The season has already ended for nine American League teams. The same as we did on Saturday with the eliminated teams in the National League, here are the offseason objectives for these ball clubs -- in most cases told to me directly by a member of that team's front office.

New York Yankees

Offseason Objectives:
1. A starting pitcher
2. Rebuild the bullpen
3. Develop the young bats rather than spend on Cespedes and Encarnacion

The Yankees’ priority this winter will be to acquire a significant starting pitcher, with soon-to-be free agent Rich Hill possibly on their target list. The Yankees’ preference, however, is to pursue controllable starting pitchers via trade. Armed with one of the game’s strongest farm systems, they could match up well with several teams.

The Yankees also want to rebuild the quality and depth of their bullpen after dealing both Aroldis Chapman and Andrew Miller at the trade deadline. The Yankees’ offense needs to improve, but at this time they’d prefer to have the lineup get better with their kids rather than ponying up significant years and dollars on some of this year’s best available bats, like Yoenis Cespedes or Edwin Encarnacion.
