Tulane 67, Tulsa 65

TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- David Gomez scored 16 points and Tulane held off a late surge in overtime as the Green Wave beat Tulsa 67-65 Wednesday night.

Tulane held the Golden Hurricane (8-6, 0-2 Conference USA) scoreless over the final 4:54 of regulation, then the foul-plagued Gomez took over during the extra period. He converted a three-point play to start the overtime session and later added a jump hook that gave Tulane a 57-50 lead with 1:20 to play.

Tulane (11-6, 1-2 CUSA) survived a three-point barrage by Tulsa freshman Glenn Andrews, who had three treys in the extra period and led the Golden Hurricane with 20 points.

Tulsa came within 59-57 with 34.2 seconds left on one of Andrews' 3-pointers, but failed to foul on the inbounds play and Tulane got an uncontested layup from Johnny Mayhane.

Kevin Sims added 14 and Louisme Robinson had 13 points and eight rebounds for the Green Wave.

Tulsa shot just 36.1 percent and was outrebounded 42-39. Four of those rebounds were on the offensive end on Tulane's final possession in regulation, as Tulane missed four shots and secured the rebound each time before Daniel Puckett scored the tying basket with 19 seconds left.

Ben Uzoh went for the last shot but lost control of the ball. Uzoh finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Calvin Walls had 12 points and seven rebounds.

Tulsa went ahead 47-41 on a floater in the lane by Rod Earls with 4:54 to play, but stopped being aggressive on offense in the last five minutes.

Andrews, who had given Tulsa its largest lead at 41-33 on a drive with 8:09 left, did not play down the stretch until returning early in the overtime period.
