West Indies take 2-1 lead after narrow win

West Indies 159 for 7 (Taylor 46, Roy 2-27) beat India156 (Sharma 35, Moohammad 2-20) by 3 wickets

West Indies eked out a three-wicket win with four balls to spare in the third ODI at the Reliance Stadium in Vadodara to take a 2-1 lead in the five-game series. There was a late wobble when Deandra Dottin and Shanel Daley fell in quick succession, but with plenty of overs left, Shemaine Campbelle and Anisa Mohammad made sure they got to their target without further trouble.

Openers Stefanie Taylor and Juliana Nero gave the West Indies a steady start, reaching 45 in the 11th over before Rumeli Dhar had Nero caught for 22. Left-arm spinner Gouher Sultana and legspinner Priyanka Roy tied down the batsmen in the middle overs, with the pair conceding just 41 runs between them. Roy also removed the dangeous Taylor for 46, but the vistors continued to get useful contributions and at 142 for 5 in the 42nd over, were the odds-on favourites to complete a comfortable victory.

But Dhar dismissed Dottin with the last ball of the 42nd over and in the next over Roy had Daley caught to give the West Indies something to think about. With 7.3 overs remaining and just 15 runs to get, however, Campbelle and Mohammad didn't need to take any risks to take the West Indies to their target.

India won the toss and chose to bat first, slumping to 102 for 7 before some lusty lower-order hitting from Amita Sharma, who made 35 from 34 balls, helped them post 156.
