Scorecard

New South Wales marched to an innings victory over Victoria despite the Bushrangers opener Travis Dean carrying his bat on the final day of the Sheffield Shield match at the MCG.

Like his fellow opening batsman Ed Cowan, who dominated the Blues' innings with a double-century, Dean was able to find a way to endure against the experimental Dukes ball that offered notable swing for the pacemen and spin and bounce for William Somerville, who claimed four wickets to help close out the match.

However Dean was very much on his own among the Bushrangers' batsmen, his double of 67 and 79 not out being the only half centuries posted by the home side for the match.Sean Abbott gained disconcerting swing at times, and counted the acting captain Cameron White, Dan Christian and Sam Harper among his three wickets.

The debutant Will Pucovski did not bat after suffering a blow to the head when fielding and then showing symptoms of concussion.

"Will Pucovski suffered a knock to the head while fielding during day two of the Sheffield Shield clash between Victoria and New South Wales at the MCG," a Cricket Victoria spokesman said. "Pucovski was taken from the field and replaced by 12th man Matthew Short, before undertaking concussion tests in the rooms. Showing symptoms of concussion, Pucovski took no further part in the game. He will continue to be assessed during the week."
