The bus carrying the Italy and Cayman Islands teams back to the team hotel from their washed-out game in Medicina met with an accident, with three members of the Cayman Islands squad, manager Stephen Best and a tournament scorer being taken to hospital for injuries. All of them have been discharged.

Tournament director Edward Fitzgibbon said, "We're obviously relieved that all those on the bus are now safely back at the hotel and wish them all a speedy recovery".

Cayman Islands coach Theo Cuffy said, "We're extremely thankful that nobody was severely injured during this accident and both teams are safe. I would especially like to thank the driver of our bus whose quick reactions meant that nobody was more seriously injured and also the Italian emergency services who aided us all at the scene".

The other two games on the opening day of the tournament were also abandoned due to rain. Nepal batted for 14 overs in Pianoro, reaching 51 for 2 against USA with opener Anil Mandal finishing unbeaten on 30. Argentina took on Tanzania in the other game in Navile and were in trouble at 36 for 4 when rain intervened. Seamer Khalil Rehmtullah grabbed three wickets.
