Baluchistan 24 for 1 trail NWFP 222 (Jan 83, Rauf 5-72) by 198 runs
Scorecard

Adbur Rauf's five wickets gave Baluchistan the first day's honours at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. His captain, Misbah-ul-Haq, chose to field against favourites North West Frontier Province - who boasted Yasir Hameed and Umar Gul, and were unbeaten all season - and Rauf backed the decision by helping dismiss them for 222.

The early momentum was provided by Rauf's fellow new-ball operator, Kamran Hussain, who dismissed Hameed lbw for 3 and Rafatullah Mohmand for 4. Then Rauf - who has played four ODIs and a Twenty20 for Pakistan - got stuck in, nipping out Wajid Ali, Aftab Alam and Shoaib Khan snr as NWFP slipped to 81 for 6.

NWFP were lifted out of the mire largely by Zulfiqar Jan, their wicketkeeper. Jan added 66 for the seventh wicket with Gul, his captain, who made 29 and 64 with Yasir Shah (37 from 55 balls). Jan's 83 was the only half-century of the innings. Rauf returned to add Jan and Yasir en route to figures of 5 for 72 from 21 overs. Each of the five bowlers used by Baluchistan got among the wickets.

In reply, Baluchistan lost Shoaib Khan jnr for 4, dismissed by Junaid Khan, and proceeded to 24 for 1 at stumps.
