Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez were back in Barcelona on Friday and the two are confirmed to travel, along with Arturo Vidal, Philippe Coutinho and Arthur Melo to the United States on Aug. 5 for matches against Italian side Napoli in Miami on Aug. 7 and Detroit on Aug. 10

All five South American players were part of their respective Copa America teams and were allotted holiday, but Suarez and Messi cut their vacations short by five days to return Barcelona on Friday.

Suarez returned to training at the club's facility on Friday and will join up with the team on July 31.

Barcelona are playing in Japan through Saturday, where fans witnessed the unofficial debuts of Antoine Griezmann, Frenkie De Jong and Neto.

Messi landed in Catalonia on Friday, days ahead of schedule as well, though he is not due to report with the team until the first week of August.

All five players are expected to reunited with the team when they play Arsenal on Aug. 4 for the Joan Gamper trophy.

The Arsenal game will mark the first time coach Ernesto Valverde will have the entire squad together since the final match of season on May 25, which saw Valencia beat Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final in Sevilla.

Neither Messi nor Suarez were part of the club's tour to the U.S last summer because of their involvement at the World Cup.

Barcelona first played in the United States in 2003. The Catalans played in New Jersey, Washington D.C. and Miami in 2017 as part of the International Champions Cup (ICC) and last summer in Los Angeles, Dallas and Santa Clara, California as part of the same competition.

They opted against being involved in the ICC this year but will now take part in the first-ever La Liga-Serie A Cup.

The annual cup will be a two-legged series featuring teams from the Spanish and Italian leagues. This is the ninth time historically that Barcelona have played in the United States.
