Kedah focus on defence after leaking four goals in Malaysia Super League

Kedah interim coach Nidzam Adzha warned his team against letting in soft goals in Saturday's FA Cup semifinal against Terengganu.

That's after the 2016 Malaysia Cup champions conceded deep into injury time in a sensational 4-4 draw against PKNS FC in Malaysia Super League (MSL) on Tuesday night.

The early season frontrunners held 3-1 and 4-3 leads, but lapses in concentration cost them two precious points that would have taken them to outright second on the MSL table.

"They players were comfortable in the first half, and then got carried away, and we gave away three simple goals. I was still happy with their overall performance, but we should have finished the game off when we had the chance," Nidzam said.

The Canaries were on course for a win through a Syafiq Ahmad double. But PKNS fought back gallantly through goals from Patrick "Ronaldinho" Wleh, Lucas Espindola and Matias Hadwa.

Nidzam's side will take a 1-0 lead to the second leg in Terengganu in the FA Cup last four.

They will be confident of having the likes of Liridon Krasniqi, Zachary Anderson and Rizal Ghazali back for the game.

"Rizal's return is crucial for us against Terengganu. We also hoping that both Liridon and Zachary will be fit to feature as we aim to reach the final," said Nidzam.

PKNS coach E. Elavarasan, meanwhile, credited the immense fighting spirit of his players, but says he will still need to make changes in the second MSL transfer window next week.

"We have to improve in certain departments, depending on our budget. But we showed the kind of spirit and character that we need for the rest of the season," Elavarasan said.

The result saw Kedah tie second with Pahang on the MSL table, six points behind leaders Johor Darul Ta'zim.

The precious draw for PKNS puts them in ninth, a point above the drop zone.
