Xherdan Shaqiri gives Gary Neville Liverpool shirt after Jamie Carragher bet

Xherdan Shaqiri has handed Gary Neville his own signed Liverpool shirt after the former Manchester United defender lost a bet with Jamie Carragher.

The wager was made over a penalty, with Neville vowing to wear Carragher's old No.23 Liverpool shirt on television if he missed from 12 yards.

Carragher then upped the ante, saying: "No, I'll tell you who'll we'll get, No.23 Shaqiri on the back -- he (Neville) hates Shaqiri!"

Sure enough, Carragher saved Neville's poor penalty effort then stepped up and tucked away his own, leaving the latter with a bargain to uphold.

After finding himself embroiled in the wager, Shaqiri has since stepped in to deliver a personalised shirt for Neville to don, complete with a hand-written message scrawled on the back.

"To Gary, my number one fan. Please don't track back. Sorry, please don't back track on this bet," the Reds winger wrote.

Neville was rather critical of Shaqiri during the World Cup, admonishing the Swiss international for his "unprofessional" comments and conduct that marred the culmination of his stint at Stoke City.

Whether or not Neville now intends to honour his bet and make amends by wearing Shaqiri's Liverpool shirt in front of a live television audience of millions remains to be seen.
