England crash out of Euro 2016 after Iceland defeat: ESPN FC's reaction

ENGLAND: England crashed out of Euro 2016 after a shock 2-1 defeat to Iceland, and the tiny country of just 330,000 sealed a quarterfinal date with France on July 3 in Saint-Denis.

The result, coming just a few days after the UK voted to leave the EU in a historic referendum, has sent shockwaves round the country. Here is some of the best reaction from ESPN FC.

NEWS

Roy Hodgson resigned as England manager following the round of 16 defeat to Iceland.

Wayne Rooney vowed to be part of a bright England's future, despite describing his side's defeat as "embarrassing'' while goalkeeper Joe Hart says England will deserve all the criticism they will receive.

Ragnar Sigurdsson, meanwhile, said Iceland didn't feel under any pressure. He said: "It went well. We didn't feel that they created any chances. We were just heading away long balls. I wasn't stressed in the second half."

Alan Shearer has called for a double act of Gareth Southgate and Glenn Hoddle to lead England in the wake of their "clueless and embarrassing" Euro 2016 exit.
