Manchester United's Nick Powell to make Hull City debut against Arsenal

Manchester United's versatile midfielder Nick Powell will make his debut on loan for Hull City against Arsenal in the FA Cup fifth round on Saturday.

Powell was highly rated by Sir Alex Ferguson when the player was recruited by United in the summer of 2012 but he has struggled recently, making just two appearances for Louis van Gaal's side this season. Those games were the damaging defeats against Wolfsburg and Bournemouth in December.

The 21-year-old, whose United contract expires in the summer, moved to Hull on transfer deadline day but is yet to feature.

Hull manager Steve Bruce, the former United captain, confirmed that the former England under-21 midfielder will play at the Emirates Stadium though.

"Nick will definitely play," Bruce told Hull's official website. "To be fair to Nick, he came here with a bit of an injury but he has now trained for 10 days.

"When you look at a game like we had on Tuesday night against Brighton [a 0-0 draw], Nick could be just the type of player we're looking for and he will have a big part to play in the coming weeks. I've told him that. He's versatile and can play as a striker or as a midfielder and I'm sure he can give us that bit of impetus."

Powell showed some encouraging signs early on in his United career, scoring on his debut against Wigan Athletic in September 2012 and then going on to play in five more matches that season, including two in the Champions League against Galatasaray and CFR Cluj.

In the two seasons that followed, he had loan spells at Wigan Athletic and Leicester City but has struggled to live up to his promise.
