Adrian Mutu has slammed Italy's La Gazzetta dello Sport for claiming he was refused a visa to take part in the Indian Super League for being drunken and disorderly at the Indian embassy.

Citing the Romanian press as a source, La Gazzetta reported on Tuesday that Mutu had presented himself at the Indian embassy in Bucharest in a visibly drunken state.

During the wait for his visa to be issued, the former Chelsea, Juventus and Fiorentina striker was reported to have turned aggressive, prompting embassy staff to invite the 35-year-old to return when sober.

It was claimed he would miss the first game of the season for his side FC Pune City against Alessandro Del Piero's Delhi Dynamos as a result, but Mutu has rubbished the claims with a Tweet.

"I don't understand how a newspaper like the Gazzetta dello Sport can write such lies without checking their information first," Mutu wrote in a Tweet which carried a picture of his visa, issued on Oct. 10.

Mutu, who last appeared for Petrolul Ploiesti in his home country, has signed a contract with Pune City for the three-month duration of the maiden Indian Super League.

Gazzetta have since included Mutu's Tweet into their article, attributing the original story to the Romanian press.
