Schalke to sign Matija Nastasic on loan from Manchester City

Schalke have confirmed that Manchester City defender Matija Nastasic is to join on loan until the end of the season, subject to a medical.

On Monday, the Royal Blues announced on their official website that they had finally struck a deal with City, where the 21-year-old Serbia international had become surplus to requirements under Manuel Pellegrini.

Nastasic, who remains under contract at Manchester City until 2017, joins Schalke on a six-month loan until the end of the season, with Sky Sports News reporter Dirk Schlarmann claiming the Bundesliga club will pay two million euros to complete the loan as well as a further 2.4 million euros to cover his salary until the end of the season.

The Bundesliga side will then be able to complete a permanent deal in the summer for 13 million euros.

Nastasic has not featured for City since the Community Shield in August, but Roberto Di Matteo has opted to make the former Fiorentina centre-back his first signing since taking charge at Schalke.

"That's a super talent," Borussia Dortmund defender Neven Subotic said of his compatriot in kicker. "It's great step for him to join Schalke. In spite of his young age, he has an impressive physique, and the time in England certainly did him good."
