Remi Garde's men must win at Nice on Saturday to assure themselves of fifth place and Europa League qualification, but they may have to do it without Gourcuff, who injured his right ankle while walking his dog earlier this week. It was his 14th injury in four years with OL.

The France international had only just returned from an injury to the same ankle sustained when he was tackled from behind in the derby loss to Saint-Etienne in late March. He has made only 18 league appearances this season, and Le Parisien claims the club believe the former AC Milan player is over-sensitive to knocks and niggles.

Having all but resigned themselves to not being able to sell the 27-year-old midfielder and get some return on the estimated 22 million euros they paid Bordeaux for him in 2010, OL have sought to cut their losses in other ways.

However, Gourcuff rejected a contract extension, which would have lowered his estimated 500,000 euro monthly wage, in December and, with just a year left on his contract, could decide to see out his current deal before moving on, leaving OL empty-handed.
