Montpellier 2-0 Metz
Montpellier recorded back-to-back victories in Ligue 1 for the first time in seven months after downing Metz 2-0 at Stade de la Mosson.Goals at the end of either half from Siaka Tiene and substitute Souleymane Camara earned Montpellier the spoils as they followed up their impressive away victory by the same scoreline over Marseille last time out.The win lifts the 2012 French champions up to fifth spot on six points, while fifth-bottom Metz remain on two points after suffering their first defeat. It might have been a different story, though, had Metz managed to convert the penalty they won when the game was still goalless. After a relatively quiet opening 28 minutes, Metz were handed the perfect chance to take the lead when Hilton brought Yeni Ngbakoto down inside the area.Kevin Lejeune beat Geoffrey Jourdren from the spot but saw his effort came back off the post, and then the Montpellier keeper did superbly to keep Lejeune from making amends when the ball found its way back to him soon after.Montpellier ensured they did not waste that huge let-off by taking the lead in the 44th minute with a superb curling free-kick from the edge of the box by Tiene. The second half started in scrappy fashion and it was not until the 64th minute that there was some more goalmouth action to entertain the fans, and even then Montpellier replacement Camara failed to get his header from Morgan Sansone's corner on target. The next chance fell to Metz and it very nearly produced the equaliser. Romain Metanire did brilliantly on the right to beat two players before firing a cross into the area which ended up with Jourdren producing a fine save to keep out Fadil Sido's effort. Both sides had opportunities to net as the game entered the final 15 minutes, with Kevin Berigaud heading over and Anthony Mounier seeing a shot saved for the hosts, while at the other end Juan Falcon was denied by a goal-line clearance from Sanson. It was Montpellier who would get the crucial next goal though, with the influential Sanson perfectly picking out Camara in the 89th minute for the Senegal international to head past Johann Carrasso and wrap up the win.ends
