Remy Cabella strike lifts Marseille over Rennes

Remy Cabella kept Marseille in the hunt for European football next season with the only goal in their 1-0 Ligue 1 victory over Rennes at Roazhon Park.

Rennes have not won a home game since Aug. 29 and it took just 23 minutes for France striker Cabella to capitalise on their lack of confidence, gathering Georges-Kevin Nkoudou's pass before turning and finding the bottom right corner.

Rennes dominated the closing stages of the match as they probed for the equaliser and were denied in the 78th minute by the reactions of goalkeeper Steve Mandanda.

Remy Cabella scored the winner in the 23rd minute.

A brilliant cross from the right was met by the onrushing Benjamin Andre, who was denied by Mandanda and the keeper then had to stop an opportunist attempt by Jeremie Boga.

Lucas Ocampos could have snatched a late second for Marseille but was denied by a brilliant tackle by Pedro Mendes, who showed real pace to save the day.
