Philadelphia Union score late to beat D.C. United and take over first in East

CHESTER, Pa. -- Richie Marquez scored his first MLS goal in the 91st minute and the Philadelphia Union beat D.C. United 1-0 on Friday night to move into first place in the Eastern Conference.

Sebastien Le Toux curled a cross into the box that went over the head of C.J. Sapong and a defender, but Marquez was left open at the far post for a sliding finish.

Philadelphia is undefeated in its last five matches, including three draws. D.C. United has lost two of its last three.

It was a battle of the goalkeepers for most of the match.

D.C. United's Travis Worra could not secure a long shot and the ball fell to the feet of an open Le Toux in front of an empty net. But Le Toux's first touch was too strong and Worra recovered to knock out a deflected shot in the 51st minute.

Philadelphia's Andre Blake made an acrobatic save of Alvaro Saborio's bicycle kick in the 63rd minute.
