San Jose Earthquakes best Sporting KC on Chris Wondolowski penalty

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Chris Wondolowski scored on a penalty kick and David Bingham had five saves to help the San Jose Earthquakes beat Sporting Kansas City 1-0 on Sunday.

Wondolowski scored his MLS-leading seventh goal of the season in the 58th minute after Simon Dawkins drew a likely goal-saving penalty in the box on Kansas City goalkeeper Tim Melia.

Sporting's Dominic Dwyer appeared to draw a penalty inside San Jose's box just seconds before Wondolowski's goal, but didn't get the call.

Bingham had a pair of acrobatic saves in the first half and recorded his third shutout this season, tied for the most in MLS.

San Jose has scored at least one goal in 21 consecutive games, the longest active streak in MLS.

Sporting KC has lost three in a row and lost four of its last five. It was held scoreless for the first time in its last eight games, dating to last season.
