Early goal holds up for Eintracht Frankfurt to defeat Cologne

Eintracht Frankfurt closed the gap on sixth-placed Cologne with a 1-0 win at the Waldstadion on Saturday evening.

Mijat Gacinovic scored the only goal of the game after just five minutes, with the Eagles closer to adding a second than the Goats were to scoring an equaliser in the first half.

Cologne nevertheless searched for an equaliser in the second half, but Frankfurt did well to keep their top-scorer Anthony Modeste at bay, with Yuya Osako also going close with 10 minutes left.

The win lifts Frankfurt level on points with Cologne, but behind both them and fifth-placed Borussia Dortmund on goal difference.
