Bojan scored for Montreal, which has lost four-straight games and five of its past six. The Impact (5-8-1, 16 points) have been outscored 14-4 during the four-game slide.
David Jensen made three saves for the Red Bulls, who had a 14-7 edge in shots and placed five on target. Montreal placed four shots on target.
Clement Diop had one save for the Impact, who were without leading scorer Romell Quioto (six goals) for the second straight game due to a red card he received against the Philadelphia Union on Sept. 20.
Montreal struck first when Bojan drilled a long-range right-footed shot into the left corner of the net in the fourth minute of the match.
New York tied the score 10 minutes later as Barlow used his chest to collect a pass from Mandela Egbo and then slid a left-footed shot into the net.
The Red Bulls moved ahead in the 35th minute and the sequence began with Cristian Casseres Jr. sending a cross toward the pack of players near the net. Royer backheeled the ball over to Barlow, who easily poked it into the net.
New York pulled away with goals in back-to-back minutes of the second half.
Kaku delivered a pass to Royer in the 56th minute and the latter turned and sent a right-footer into the right corner of the net to give the Red Bulls a 3-1 lead.
One minute later, the two reversed roles. Royer fed Kaku, who drilled a close-range left-footer past Diop.
