Borussia Dortmund secured a nervous 2-1 victory over Heidenheim in the Bundesliga on Saturday in interim coach Mike Tullberg's last game in charge for their first win in five league games.

Dortmund, who will see Niko Kovac take over on Sunday, went ahead in the 33rd minute with their top scorer Serhou Guirassy given far too much space in the box and the Guinea international duly tapped in from close range for his ninth league goal.

Despite controlling possession chances were few and far between and they had to wait until the 63rd to score again when Maximilian Beier slid in to connect with a Ramy Bensebaini cutback.

The hosts pulled a goal back through Mathias Honsak a minute later but with memories surfacing of last week's wasted 2-0 lead in their 2-2 draw against Werder Bremen, Dortmund, who face Sporting in the Champions League playoffs this month, held on for the win.

Tullberg, who threw his jacket on the pitch and raced to the Dortmund fans in the stadium at the end to celebrate wildly in front of them, finished his short three-game stint with a draw and two wins, after they also beat Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League in midweek.

"The club means a lot to me. You can see that [emotional] outbreak at the under-19 matches as well but not too many people watch those," Tullberg, who will return to the youth team now, said on his emotional celebration.

"It does not matter in which role, I am just happy to be able to work at Borussia Dortmund."
