Serge Gnabry at the double as Bayern Munich romp to 4-0 win over Union Berlin

Serge Gnabry scored twice as Bayern Munich returned to winning ways in the Bundesliga in style with a 4-0 home victory over Union Berlin to move a step closer toward their 13th Bundesliga title in 14 years.

It took the hosts until two minutes before the break to get their noses in front through Michael Olise but Gnabry added a quick second, Harry Kane struck just after half-time and Gnabry finished off the scoring.

Bayern stayed nine points clear of Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga.

"We're right where we have to be and want to be," Kompany said of the team's form before its Champions League date with Real Madrid next month.

Jonas Urbig was again in goal for Bayern with Manuel Neuer not yet recovered from a muscle tear, while Aleksandar Pavlovic missed out due to hip problems.

Nicolas Jackson and Luis Díaz were suspended having been sent off during last weekend's tempestuous draw with Bayer Leverkusen as Vincent Kompany's side set about trying to launch another winning run.

A strong run from Olise in the 10th minute was only snuffed out by a crucial block from Leopold Querfeld, while Lennart Karl's shot was comfortably saved by Frederik Ronnow.

Derrick Köhn saw a free kick from the edge of the box deflected behind at the other end but the pressure was nearly all from Bayern.

The hosts came agonisingly close in the 29th minute when Josip Stanisic got away down the left and squared for Karl but the teenager struck his shot against the base of the post.

A diving save from Ronnow 10 minutes later denied Olise before Kane missed a golden chance, going round the keeper after seizing on a miscued clearance but sending his shot across the face of goal from a tight angle.

Bayern did find the breakthrough three minutes later through a moment of real quality from Olise, the Frenchman taking down a ball from Leon Goretzka, beating Stanley Nsoki and curling his shot inside the far post.

There was still time for a second before half-time, this time Joshua Kimmich the creator with a cross that Ronnow came for and misjudged, leaving Gnabry to fire in.

Union reacted with a double change, Tom Rothe and Andrej Ilic coming on, but Kane made it three goals in six minutes either side of the break, picking up the ball from Konrad Laimer and finding the bottom corner.

It was the England captain's 31st goal of the Bundesliga season -- the same tally as the whole of Union's team.

Olise was central to the fourth, which arrived in the 67th minute, exchanging passes with Laimer and sending in a shot that was blocked but fell to Gnabry, who lashed his effort inside the near post.

Jeong Woo-yeong finally forced Urbig into a first save in the 77th minute before Bayern struck the woodwork again through Olise, while the last meaningful action saw Kane shoot wide.
