Andriy Yarmolenko is 'top, top quality' target for Stoke boss Mark Hughes

Mark Hughes hopes Stoke can bring in a "top, top quality player" this summer after confirming his interest in Dynamo Kiev winger Andriy Yarmolenko.

Hughes has already brought in seven new players since the end of the season with Stoke hoping to build on their best-ever Premier League finish of ninth last term.

Yarmolenko, 25, has been heavily linked with a switch to the Potters, and Hughes confirmed that the Ukraine international -- who recorded the joint-most assists (six) in last season's Europa League -- is among those being considered at the Britannia Stadium.

"He's the level of player that we hope to bring in if we can," Hughes told the BBC. "We're still hopeful we can get a player of top, top quality -- if we can do that we'll probably be done."

Meanwhile, Dynamo manager Sergei Rebrov doubts Yarmolenko would move to Stoke, saying: "I know nothing about this proposal. But I told him that if he goes, it should be to a team that is fighting for the Champions League."

Stoke failed in bids for Chelsea winger Victor Moses -- who impressed on loan with Hughes' side last season -- Inter playmaker Xherdan Shaqiri and Cedric Soares, who opted to swap Sporting Lisbon for Southampton.

Hughes admitted that the club have "missed out on a couple of players that we haven't been able to get over the line," but the former Manchester United, Chelsea and Barcelona striker is eyeing a strong start to the 2015-16 season following their Barclays Asia Trophy appearances in Singapore.

"We haven't hit the highs that we will do in the season because we're still coming together as a group," he added.

"I'm encouraged by the technical ability we've added -- I think Joselu will add to that and I'm very pleased with the other players we've added."
